What are the best sites for poetry? We’ve started with these. What else should there be?

1. Poetry Magazine - Web site of the magazine Poetry, which is published by The Poetry Foundation with the goal of publishing the best works of contemporary poets. Read the poetry published in the magazine and learn how to submit your own manuscripts. Published poems are eligible for prizes. (www.poetrymagazine.org)

2. “Amaryllis” - December 4, 2006 article by US Poet Laureate Ted Kooser in which Kooser chooses a poem titled “Amaryllis” by Connie Wanek to highlight the winter season. (www.csmonitor.com)

3. Poets’ Corner - This site boasts 6700 poems by 780 poets. Poems range from “lone quatrains to entire books, with a large selection of sonnets, narrative poems, and topical works to choose from.” Search poems by author, title, and subject. (www.theotherpages.com)

4. Representative Poetry Online: Poet Index - This site provides poems from the early medieval period through to contemporary times. The site offers 2,900 English poems by over 400 poets. There are poet and poem indexes and a keyword search feature. (eir.library.utoronto.ca)

5. Poetry Archives - Offers almost 5000 non-copyrighted poems from 150+ poets. Click on Top Authors and Classic Poets to see if the poet you’re researching is on the list. (www.emule.com)

6. Poetry Thursday - Liz Elayne and Dana offer ideas on poetry writing, especially on different ways to gain inspiration or hone your style. (poetrythursday.blogspot.com)

7. Poetry.com - Read poems (including their 100 Greatest Poems Ever Written), enter poetry contests, learn poetic techniques and learn how to get your poetry in your own poetry book or on personalized poetry products such as greeting cards, calendars, sweatshirts, etc. (www.poetry.com)

8. “Howl” at 50: Beat Generation’s Cry - November, 2006 article on the 50th anniversary of the publication of Allen Ginsburg’s groundbreaking poem “Howl”, which caused such a stir at the time that publisher Lawrence Ferlinghetti was arrested on obscenity charges for selling it in the United States. 9. Poetry Evolution - Blog from Hari Bhajan offers poetry of many types as well as personal reflections and information about her online poetry workshops. (www.poetryevolution.com)
