    My truck was repo’d and the repo co. personnel stole numerous tools from my truck. The local police say there is nothing I can do. I can’t believe this is allowed. The co. name is American Recovery Services in Greensboro,NC.I lost almost $500 worth of tools. They won’t help nor will the police. These people make me sick and make the whole profession look bad.

    If you had paid your note ,your tools would be safe. All they are responsable for is the recovery of the vehicle.When they deliver the property it become the note holders responsability . My brother had a 66 impala convert. impounded and the recovery people evidently didn’t know how to back it in place without hitting everything…guess what,,,they were not responsable for damage,were talking about a factory bigblock convertable impala…FINISHED at the time. It’s like you lose all rights when this happens.

    I understand how the repo works but how can they collect the balance owed if any after they sell the vehicle? Can they draft our paychecks?

    There is a website www.procra.com which stands for Professional Collateral Recovery Agents where repossession agents go to discuss laws and things that they deal with daily. You could go there and ask them what your rights are. If you are trying to get in the business, it is the best place to get good, solid, by the book advice.

    I just bought a car from a buy here pay here lot in January. I called the the place where I got my car from and told him that I was going to be late in September. Everything was ok. I only have 1 payment left on the car. I wasnt even 30 days late and he repoed my car. Then he tells me that he wants both payments and the repossession fees for the car before I can get it out. We have been having problems since I got the car. The car is in my fathers name but I was the one making payments. He never wanted to talk to me always my dad although I was the one making the payments.

    My mother had her car repo’d after only missing ONE payment!! The SAME creditor she had been dealing with for 25+ years, and had purchased and paid off previous vehicles;
    She recently filed a bankrupty around 2005; they said that was the reason why… That doesnt make sense… I was told you have to be AT LEAST 2 or more… Can someone please verify this for me?
