My husband has type 2 diabetes. We have Medicare and AARP prescription insurance which we pay 35.10 a month to have. In November 09 we paid $38 for 2 vials of Lantus 100 units. In Dec 09 we paid $38 for 1 vial, same units. In Jan 10 we paid 42 for 1 vial, same unit and now in Feb 2010 we are paying 97.44 for 1 vial, same units. We live strictly on SS, what are us and everyone else to do? Something is very wrong here.

The only insurance I have is Medicare which does not have any prescription coverage. The supplement insurances really doesn’t help with insulin because they bounce the cost to much one month you may pay $40 something the next month you may pay $80 something the next month almost pay full price for the insulin plus the price for the insurance. I thought insurance was suppose to help people not confuse them and cost them more. The pharm. companies are not helping either because they are constantly raising the cost of such meds. but where is the cures they have been giving all this money to find. Technology has taken off everywhere except here rumor has it the pharm. companies would lose to much money if a cure was ever developed so if they want to continue making money maybe they should make it a little more affordable for diabetics to live. If we can’t afford the insulin we don’t live, if we don’t live you is left to buy the medicine. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE.

I have been a type one diabetic for 45 years or from the age of two. I agree with the last comment. I have seen the price of Lantus go from $45 to about $95 per vial in less than 10 years. Last I checked inflation wasn’t going up at that rate. I also use Humalog and both are not covered through my insurance as there are no generic brands of these products. I have been fortunate to have been able to obtain samples from my doctor but lately with the economy the way it is they are running short as more are in need of the samples than before. It would be no big deal if I had an extra $130 per month I could spend on my insulin. Remember, I am a type one and my condition was not caused by my lifestyle. In fact I exercise every day and have kept my A1C at 5.5. As a type one I can’t live without insulin. In the past I reduced my insulin doses as much as I could by bicycling 65 to 100 miles 6 days a week. Now with my work schedule I can’t put that kind of time into my exercise program. What more can I do. I work 40 hrs. per week at $9.00 per hr. and am trying to get a home business off the ground. Could it be that I am irresponsible? What do you think? I am sure there are others just like me who are lot lazy and who take care of their health and are finding themselves in the same situation. We are not looking for a handout. We just want to live. We may soon find out that we’re asking for too much?

I’m a graduate student, and all of the sudden the price of insulin has jumped so dramatically that I reached the max coverage for prescriptions, and have to pay full price. Now, I can not afford to pay for my medication. To me, these drastic price increases are verging on criminal.

Its monday, we were told friday that our insurance had been canceled. No letter yet, just the stupid smile and rude dispostion of the pimple faced teenager working at the pharm telling us we were no longer convered, I try to argue to plead to make this child understand that my husband needs his medicine. He truely cannot live without it,its not as if this is a pain pill, hes not what you would call a “drug seeker” hes a 28 year diabetic thats had type 1 since age 13. Hes got a family and hiself to support. And hes a walking miracle really, Last year we truley almost lost him when he had a sudden low sugar attack and wrapped his car around a tree on his way home from work. It was on the news, first the news guy said it was a drunk driving accident, when I call ed and informed them they didnt care they had to be forced to change the story under threat of legal action. So now here we are in the car me my husband and our 9 year only daughter and hes telling her hes gonna take us somewhere special and were laughing and talking and having a decent time,we dont get many days like this, and then we get the bad news from this child who has no understanding what were going through, probley doesntt relize this is a a medicine he really truely needs to live…….shes 16 she doesnt care shes doesnt relize….and shes exactly like the drug companies we rely on…..God help us.
